Perfect Pants in 2005
One of my goals for this year is to create "Perfect Pants".
I don't know why. Who really cares? My step-daughter thinks this is a ludicrous goal. Ready-to-wear is so inexpensive! And you can try on 10 pairs--and you can have it now.
But my goal it is.
I started out several times with PMB to create the right pattern, but I think I've discovered two secrets.
Secret 1: If you don't know how to fit patterns, it is really hard to create a PMB pattern that fits right. Without the background in pattern fitting, you don't understand how to tweak the measurements to make the pattern fit.
Secret 2: If you've never created or bought pants that fit, you don't really know what pants that fit look like. I'm used to the back gapping open a bit--don't all pants fit that way? I'm used to them pulling a bit across the thigh--that's what lycra is for!
I have every book on pants fitting that exists. But no success.
So....
When Julie from Timmel Fabrics posted free Pants Fitting Lessons on sew-whats-new, I bought the Burda pattern and dug in.
I'll post the results of my first attempt shortly.
